FAQs
For questions on shipping and in-store pick up, please check, Policies under the, Our Store, tab.
- Why would I rent my textbooks?
A: When you rent your books, you could save up to 65% of the new book price.
- How do I know which books are available for rental?
A: Books available for rent will be identified as a Rental by a COCC sales associate at time of check-out or identified Rental on the COCC Bookstore website. If only new and used purchase prices are shown online, the book is not available for rent. There is a limited number of copies of each title available for rent.
- What if I drop a class?
A: Rental Fee refunds will be granted through the first two weeks after the beginning of class with your receipt. Refunds for late starting classes will be granted through Friday of the first week of instruction with proof of drop. The book needs to be returned in the same condition as it was when it was rented, along with the original receipt. Refunds will go back to the same tender used for purchase.
- Will I receive a reminder notification for the rental return due date?
A: The bookstore sends reminder email notifications at the end of each term, and during finals week, as a courtesy. You remain responsible for returning your rental by the Rental Return Due Date, which is always by the Friday or finals week each term.
- Are all titles available for rent?
A: No, but we try to have as many titles as possible.
- When do I have to return my rental book?
A: Last day of exams.
- Can I buy my rental book?
A: Yes! Simply bring your rented book into the store, and we will charge you the difference between the rental price and the purchase price..
- What happens if I lose or damage my rented book?
A: The credit card used to secure the renal will be charged the remaining balance of the shelf price. Examples of damage: liquid/moisture damage, rips, tears are the most common. All rentals must be returned in re-saleable condition.
- Do I get money back when I return my rental book?
A: No, you rent the book at a reduced price from the purchase price. Simply return your book by the final due date.
- Are there additional fees?
A: No, as long as you return the book by the due date and return it in re-salable condition. There are late fees and charges if you do not return your rental by the rental return deadline.
- Where do I return my rental book?
A: You return the rental book to either Bend or Redmond location. Be sure to let the bookstore employee know the book is a rental, and have your student ID available.
- Do I have to wait until the due date to return a rented book?
A: No, you may return it at time during the term as long as it’s before the due date.
- Can a friend return a rental book for me?
A: Yes, but be sure your friend gives the bookstore employee the name and student number of the person who rented the book.
- Do I need a receipt to return a rental book?
A: No, just your student ID.
- I looked at my credit card account online, and it looks like I was charged twice for the same order. Why is this?
A: You cannot be charged twice for the same order on the website. What you are seeing is the “approved”, which usually disappears within 24 hours, and is not actually a charge.
- I ordered four books but was only charged for three. What happened to the fourth book?
A: The fourth book is probably on backorder. As soon as some copies arrive, you will be charged for it, and you will receive an e-mail notification.
- If I need to return a book, what can I do?
A: You may return your textbook(s) with a receipt for a full refund through the second week of the term. All books must be in original condition. There are no refunds after the second Friday of each term.
- What happens if I missed returning my books during the 100% refund period?
A: Due to publisher return policies and reorders, after the 2nd week of the term there are no returns accepted on textbooks.
- How do I find the books I need for my classes?
A: You need to have the department, course and section number for each class you are inquiring about. That information is required for both online and in-store purchases.
- Do I have to have the books shipped to me or can you hold them for me at the bookstore?
A: You can choose to either have the books shipped to you or to pick them up at the store. The order must be paid for and select store pick-up for the shipping method. As of July 1st, the bookstore is closed to the public and all orders are being shipped directly to students.
- I chose to pick up at store. Where do I get my books?
A: You may pick up your course materials with curbside pickup from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday at the back of the Bend bookstore. You may also request your books to be sent to the Redmond campus for pick up, Building Three from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Those orders are delivered to Redmond Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. They arrive around noon on those days. You must bring photo identification with you.
- I just placed my order. When will it be ready?
A: Order fulfillment time varies depending on availability of texts and quantity of orders. Orders are only filled Monday through Friday. You will receive a second confirmation e-mail when your order is ready. If you chose to pick up at a store, please wait 24 business hours before picking up your books. Orders are not filled on weekends.
- How long will you hold my books at the store?
A: Books are held through the one month each term.
- I picked all used books. Why is my total on the confirmation e-mail the price of the new textbooks?
A: This is only a price estimate, not the price you will be charged. We try to respect your used/new preference as best we can, but cannot guarantee new or used. You will be charged after we pick the books for the amount of used/new books we were able to get for you. This total will be indicated on your confirmation e-mail.
- How do I cancel some or all of the books on my order?
A: You cannot cancel an online order once it is placed. You must contact the textbook department at 541-318-3706 or email [email protected] to request a cancellation of an online order.
